Radial consolidation of prefabricated vertical drain-reinforced soft clays under cyclic loading

چکیده
Previous studies have revealed that prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) are effective in stabilizing the soft subgrade soils under traffic-induced cyclic loads. A consolidation model of clays loading incorporating both radial and drainages, nonlinear variation compressibility permeability is presented this paper. The prediction matches well with result from a large-scale triaxial test conducted on soil sample installed single PVD. Parametric analysis has also been carried out to explore impacts degradation parameter, stress ratio, permeability, frequency, drainage condition, number cycles behaviors PVD-reinforced soil. Results indicate helps decelerate accumulation excess pore pressures due two factors: increased rate pressure dissipation decreased internal generation. In addition, facilitates rapid during rest period, leading denser which stronger for resisting subsequent set findings study demonstrate usefulness PVDs reinforcing subgrades conditions, e.g., road pavement, railway embankment, etc.

Comparison of Radial Consolidation Behavior of Clay under Three Types of Cyclic Loading
Vertical drains and stone columns which have been used in infrastructure construction for highways, ports, coastal regions, etc., provide significant benefits for improving soil characteristics such as reducing the drainage length and accelerating the consolidation process. So the investigation of the radial consolidation is inevitable. Soils may be subjected to cyclic loading such as silos, ta...
متن کاملA large-strain radial consolidation theory for soft clays improved by vertical drains
A system of vertical drains with combined vacuum and surcharge preloading is an effective solution for promoting radial flow, accelerating consolidation. However, when a mixture of soil and water is deposited at a low initial density, a significant amount of deformation or surface settlement occurs. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce large-strain theory, which has been widely used to manag...
متن کاملEffects of partially penetrating prefabricated vertical drains and loading patterns on vacuum consolidation
In this study, numerical modeling of a multi-drain system is employed to determine the optimum penetration depth of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) and the vacuum pressure that provides the maximum consolidation settlement and less lateral displacements. The plane strain analysis using an equivalent permeability with transformed unit cell geometry was considered for varying drain length an...

When earthquakes occur, energy released by the earthquake gets induced into the structure as ground motion and this energy has to be dissipated for safety reasons. To release seismic energy, the structure should damage in such a way that on one hand, collapse of structure should not occur and on the other hand, after the earthquake, damage should be economically feasible to repair. To avoid the...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Analysis of Soft Soil Consolidation improved by Prefabricated Vertical Drains
A system of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) with a surcharge load is an effective method for accelerating soil consolidation by promoting radial flow. This study presents a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model for soft soil improved by a single drain. In the finite element analysis, the actual rectangular PVD cross-section is considered, and the equivalent drain diameter is then bac...
